Cambodia Endorses Japan's Eco-Friendly Investment Initiative

Phnom Penh: Cambodian Ministry of Environment has expressed support for the environmentally sustainable practices of Tromso Co., Ltd., a Japanese company, advocating for an investment that promises mutual benefits for both the company and local communities, ensuring long-term sustainability.

In a recent meeting held on February 28 at the ministry, Minister of Environment, Dr. Eang Sophalleth, discussed the initiative with Tromso's President, Mr. Masaaki Uesugi. Uesugi shared that his company's operation, in collaboration with the Japan Forestry Administration, employs innovative technology to create firewood from husks. This approach not only curtails the traditional reliance on timber but also aids in the reduction of carbon emissions, marking a significant step towards environmental conservation.

Dr. Sophalleth commended Tromso's eco-friendly practices and the potential for the company's investment in Cambodia. He urged the company to leverage local labor, thereby generating new employment opportunities within the communities where it plans to invest, while maintaining its commitment to environmentally sustainable operations.

Highlighting the importance of local involvement, Dr. Sophalleth emphasized that the true value of such an investment lies in empowering communities and fostering a sense of ownership, which is crucial for the project's long-term sustainability and positive impact on both Cambodia and the global environment.
